Bureau of Workers' Compensation Discount Program:
The Bureau of Workers Compensation is offering a discount of up to
20% on your annual rate if your company agrees to participate in
their Drug /Alcohol Drug Free Workplace Program. The
following explanation outlines the requirements to participate and
receive up to 20% in yearly discounts:
- Supervisors must have (4) four hours of training related
to drug/alcohol abuse as outlined by the BWC:
- SACS can provide the supervisory training upon request to meet the BWC requirements.
- BWC requires (2) two hours of educational training for
all employees per their guidelines:
- The BWC required educational training portion for employees must be two (2) hours in length. This requirement includes supervisors, which means initially in the first year of the BWC program supervisors must obtain a total of six hours of training.
- All new applicants who are hired must have the initial (2) two hours of training within four weeks of being hired:
- Once your current supervisors and employees are trained you still will have to train all new applicants that are hired after the initial training is completed. According to the BWC guidelines all new employees must be provided the two (2) hour educational portion of the BWC training within four weeks of the hiring date.
- SACS has produced a two-hour educational video for this purpose. Anyone hired after the initial training is completed can be shown this video and instantly be brought up to compliance.
- During new employee orientation, an employer can buy some time by going over its drug-free policy with all new hires, share materials (show videos, etc.) from the employee education session that was offered by the certified/qualified presenter and make sure that all questions are answered (including consulting with the qualified person to obtain answers to the more complicated questions). This buys time until there are a sufficient number of new staff to merit having the qualified person come back to do another session!
- Every year all employees must receive (2) hours of annual training. This requirement includes supervisors and all other employees
- Every year there is a required two (2) hour session for supervisors and a required two (2) hour session for all employees including supervisors. (This brings the total annual training requirements for supervisors to a total of four (4) hours.)
- All companies must formulate a company BWC Drug Free Workplace written policy.
- Any company who decides to participate in the BWC Drug Free Workplace Program must formulate a written policy outlining the components of this program, distribute the policy to all employees and provide an explanation of the policy to all employees.
SACS can assist in providing all the requirements
for the BWC Drug Free Workplace Program.
